How to Rip MP3 Audio from Youtube

Free Youtube to MP3 Converter

Ripping the audio tracks from Youtube videos comes in very handy if you would like to take your favourite "audio" out and about with you on your personal MP3 player, burn it to a CD or to listen to in the car. You can find many online converters that will do the job for you, but it can be quite frustrating as it often means trawling through a plethora of advertisement pages before you can finally get to your download link.

Recently, I have been using the "Free Youtube to MP3 Converter" software which makes downloading your Youtube audio a simple task. Much like it's title, the software is rather unimaginative and no-frills, but luckily it does exactly what it says on the tin and it does it well!

Above, you can see the fundamental interface that you are dealing with. The process for ripping your Youtube audio is simple:
  • Copy the URL of your chosen video(s) from your browser
  • Paste the URL in the "Input URLs" section
  • Hit the "Download" button at the bottom right and sit back while your audio is downloaded
The "URL" is the text found in the address bar at the top of your browser ie. "http://www.youtube.com"

If you are anything like me and like your computer to be a clutter-free organisational paradigm, you will want to ensure that the MP3 tags are correct and that the MP3s are being downloaded to the desired folder on your computer. This is easily customised by selecting your track and hitting the "Tags" button and by changing the details in the "Output folder" field, respectively. You also have the options to change the quality of the MP3, but I found standard settings to work perfectly for use with burning CDs and for use with MP3 players.

Finally, a couple of tips I would like to suggest: If you install the software it will ask if you want to install some potentially useless third-party software with it. This can be avoided by un-checking the check boxes during setup! Also, for quality control, have a listen to the audio on your Youtube video before you try to download it to avoid poor quality MP3s!

To download this program you can click the title below the Youtube icon at the top of this post for a link to a secure download site. If for some reason the link is broken, I would suggest visiting www.download.com and searching for the software title.

Happy ripping!
